Favorite logos
What’s your favorite logo? Design-wise, that is. My list of favorites so far: tumblr (naturally), iilwy, flickr, mint, last.fm, twitter. There must be more, but it’s not coming to mind right now.

Why do my "Followers" and "Following" Change?
brooklynmutt: I did not unfollow anyone today and yet my number has decreased. The followers number I’ve always chalked up to someone must have unfollowed me but they both, just this minute changed…. confused. I think Tumblr “recycles” abandoned accounts. But that’s just my theory.

pro-tip: eat two bowls of oatmeal on Friday
heykurt: Listen: whether you’re fighting crime in Dubai, attending some emo-hipster debate in Park Slope, or just looking for a job as an incredibly talented CORNELL UNIVERSITY graduate (who also played in the CORNELL UNIVERSITY Jazz Band, ladies) you need your energy. 400 calories of pure oatmeal + milk power me through running 3 miles, biking 2 hours, and lifting. EAT. MORE. OATMEAL. My...

Bootstrapping
Dear Tumblr community, Over the last 2 months, I’ve been working with my friends Chris & Haim (the co-founders of Etsy) on a new startup. We are 6 weeks away from having something to show for our time, and I can’t wait to share it all with you. Unfortunately, I am also now completely broke, thanks to a too-expensive apartment in Brooklyn and no income since November (when I left...

Comments v. Reblogs
What I love most about reblogging is how it is a mechanism for the spread of ideas through overlapping social networks. In this case, the set of people who read Marco is not exactly the set of people who read azspot, and the set of people who read my tumblog is yet again not 1-to-1 to the union of the other two. As such, ideas (or pretty pictures or great deals or memes) are spread,...

soupsoup: charitini: Nice coup for Jimmy Fallon - they got Jack McBrayer to spoof Bobby Jindal from last night’s speech. I confess I assumed SNL would bring him in as a special guest star under the logic of Palin/Fey (despite his brief cameo on the Alec Baldwin-hosted show week before last). Who knows what was planned, Fallon got him - thereby guaranteeing a nice bit of pre-buzz for next...

Topless coffee shop opens in central Maine →
sade: VASSALBORO, Maine—A topless coffee shop that raised the ire of many residents of a small central Maine town is open for business. The Grand View Topless Coffee Shop, located at the site of the former Grand View Motel, opened its doors Monday on busy Route 3 in Vassalboro. A sign outside says, “Over 18 only.” Another says, “No cameras, no touching, cash only.” On Tuesday, two men...

Twitter & Commercial Syndication
joelaz: Regarding Twitter’s business model, bryc3 wrote: At the end of the day, I don’t think Twitter should be in the business of figuring out how they become a business. I think they should give their users a stable service and handful of tools, then get out of their way. With a team of less than 50 employees, Twitter is in a position to create an army of millions of passionate users to do...

Calling Technology’s Bluff →
azspot: One of the values of the wild is that helps put technology in its place. One way to understand this is to imagine yourself on a remote wooded ridge—say somewhere in the Ozarks. You’re suddenly engulfed by a violent thunderstorm, and while rushing to find shelter and safety, you find yourself in the company of two others in the same pursuit. Together you find a large overhanging rock...

Fantasy advice from someone who doesn't care about...
fatmanatee: I won a fantasy football league without knowing really what to do. I plan to do the same in baseball. It’s not to say that I’m arrogant about this stuff, I just think people spend too much time going crazy over it and forget that certain factors can screw the draft up (like, say, 3 people not showing up). Injuries happen. Stupid people also happen. This was an auction draft, so...
