Wait, where is the small world network? You know, real life?
Given the post’s reference to danah boyd*, you’d think they would have included small world networks. “Webs” don’t count, because a necessary property of small world networks is clustering - certain people having many connections and some have one or none, and the connections are not necessarily strong. “Hubs” don’t count because charisma isn’t the defining quality, nor is there necessarily only one.
Put it this way: if you had to fit Tumblr (as a overall community) into this model, where does it go?
* How awesome is it that danah boyd has turned her name into a brand? It’s never capitalized. Ever. And she’s incredible, love her research.
