Tamshui Fisherman’s Wharf, Taipei, by olvwu | 莫方

Oh wow, it’s been a loooong time since I’ve been back to Taipei*. The one and only time I’ve been was when I was 12 or 13, visiting my mom’s parents (she was born and raised in Taipei). My grandmother did traditional chinese watercolor painting - you know, the ones of landscapes or birds on scrolls - and we were there because her stuff and her teacher’s stuff were on display at a gallery / auction. It was a great time and SO MUCH GOOD FOOD. Most hilarious part? My 6’4” white American dad walking through the mall, surrounded by small chinese people.
*It’s a translation of chinese to say “back to Taiwan” as opposed to simply “visited Taiwan” that I picked up from my mom and all of the other parents I knew from my younger days attending weekend Chinese school. So I say it, too; I like the (unfortunately minimal) connection to chinese culture I still have.
