I’ve been reading Will’s column since 2003, the year I discovered Fantasy Baseball and saw that a group of guys (+ Chris) over at Baseball Prospectus were talking sense.
Will’s column was one of the highlights of my day… I’d literally sit and refresh BP around noon each day, waiting for his column to be posted.
I was a paying BP member from 2003 - 2008 and own 4 of BP’s books. (Startup life doesn’t lend itself to hobbies like Fantasy Baseball or reading BP.) I even was one of the people who bought a gift membership for a friend’s birthday.
I was lucky enough to meet Will in person once at a BP meetup in NYC, and we’ve been following each other through the internets and over email for a few years now. Not sure I can say I know Will well enough to call him a friend, but I wish I did.
Will, you’ve singlehandedly done an incredible service over the last decade for a sport / industry that has always been slow to change and adapt. The fact that no one has come forward to pick up your column says everything about the structural changes in journalism at large and little with the quality of your work.
