Since 1977 (so the past eight elections), the party that controls the White House has lost the Virginia gubernatorial contest. And since 1989 (the past five elections), the party controlling the White House has lost New Jersey.
so
calm
the
fuck
down.
Being Jersey born and bred (and current resident), I feel like i have the authority to say New Jersey is completely fucked up, politically, and there is little hope for progress. There are so many municipalities, townships, boroughs, cities each with their own government and government funded organizations (police, fire, schools, etc) that taxes always go up and it’s impossible to stop. Why? Because none of these towns will agree to merge with another town, freeing up unnecessary costs. And yet, everyone wants lower taxes and better schools / roads / etc.
The only way to get things done, historically, was through big political machines, which breed rampant corruption, something for which New Jersey is quite infamous. But with so many hands in the pot, there really isn’t any other way.
You don’t have to look any further than the shithole that is our state capitol to know that New Jersey ain’t getting better any time soon.
