Dear Tumblr (A Note On Why It’s Good For You To Blog):

    vneckandacardigan:

I joined Tumblr on March 1st of 2009 after much pushing by James and Michelle.  I tried to hold off as long as possible, saying I couldn’t possibly join until I had a good name for my blog (and clearly I found one).

I didn’t really know what to expect from Tumblr.  I’d never been big on blogging before.  I had just gotten my first real camera and figured I would just try and take photos of food…. try and pull off the whole “artsy” thing that had escaped me in my earlier years.  Well months later I’m still not artsy but Tumblr has forced me to take more pictures, to post them, to try and make myself better.  I was never that into Flickr, but there was something about this community of people who you “get to know” in which you begin to care about your photography.  You want to make them better, you take more photos, you try and learn.  But this I could have predicted.

What this is really about is that Tumblr provides us all with opportunities to meet people who we never would have come across people who could actually influence your life. I figured I’d meet new people, and that Tumblr would also (in a strange way) make me closer with people I was already friends with. What I didn’t anticipate was meeting people who could affect the path my life took.  Look, I’m not a big sap normally, but when you meet up with someone for a cup of coffee to discuss your mutual love of photography and food… and you leave the conversation with the realization that you want to work for this person… that is a big thing.

It is because of Tumblr that I’ll be joining Postling at the end of January.  So while I will no longer be talking about engagements and weddings all day (amen), I will now talk about Tumblr and Twitter.  I’m so thrilled to be working for, and with, Dave, and to be involved in a field where I can put my passion to good use.  I’m excited to work my little butt off and to make Postling a big success.

And so Tumblr… it is hard for me to put into so few words how thrilled I am in what you’ve provided me over these last few months.  Great people, fantastic food, and the ability to explore new things everyday (i.e. Jersey Shore meems).

    Your fan,

    Alexis.

Yes, I am BEYOND EXCITED to announce the Alexis will be joining us to handle all things marketing, PR, outreach, branding, positioning, community management, and probably a little sales and biz dev*. It’s rare to meet someone with such a natural grasp on these things, and I knew after that first cup of coffee that I wanted her talents behind us. As she said so eloquently, Tumblr has been life-altering in the number of opportunities that have come our way as a result.

*You know how people say you have to wear many hats in a startup? Yeah, that’s the Truth.
