Remember when Facebook was called Thefacebook and looked like this? I can’t believe I’ve been on it for almost six years, since summer 2004.
I joined thefacebook 4/2/2004, about 2 months after it started, upon an invite from a friend (who was a Cornellian, obviously, because you couldn’t connect with people outside your school then, IIRC). It felt really small - there were only 2-3 pages of people across the entire school and they didn’t have the pagination quite right because you’d see some of the same people on successive pages. And it was the most addicting site I’d ever been on (my first social network) because you could see and learn so much. Everyone could be a Peeping Tom.
And now? We’ve got the rise of startups like GoodCrush (we share the same office) who are creating “a site like Facebook, but for college students.”
