While it’s true that traffic is now again actually worth something, the give-everything-away-and-make-it-up-on-volume strategy stamps an expiration date on your company’s ass.

This is a serious question… are people “liking” and reblogging this quote because it is inspirational or ironic.
While I greatly admire everything that Evan Williams has done, both Blogger and Twitter have played in the sandbox of “give-everything-away-and-make-it-up-on-volume”.
Honestly, I would not be surprised if he was quoted as saying, “It’s true that traffic is actually worth something, the give-everything-away-and-make-it-up-on-volume strategy stamps an acquisition price on your company’s ass.”
Again, no disrespect at all, but genuinely confused if this is considered great advice or ironic by the people sharing it.

I’m glad Danny asked this question. I was pretty confused myself.

I’ve always believed in building real businesses. I reblogged this because I found it funny, ironic and inspirational.
