I think Trends is going to be very fun for people to play with. I knew these three bands were popular on Tumblr, but I’m fascinated to see that their mentions largely rise and fall together. I suppose some of it could be due to overall rises and falls in posting volumes from day to day, but I doubt that explains all of it.
Also, tumbleloggers certainly love themselves some Animal Collective.

Marc, it looks like the data is simply following a recurring weekly pattern (you’ll need to account for the Christmas/New Years holiday as well). If you overlaid a graph of total posts per day over this graph, I suspect you’d see a similar (though much smoother) cycle. When I was at Amazon.com, Monday’s were always the biggest days, since people are back at work but don’t feel like working.
