This is my piano. It’s a 1997 Yamaha C1 baby grand, 5’3” long. My parents bought it when I was 14 and were kind enough to let me have it once I left college. (OK, so they didn’t want it anymore because they didn’t play it and wanted to put something else there. Plus, Amazon moved it to Seattle for me, so it was free.)
Since I’m moving to Philly for 3 months this summer and am letting my Brooklyn apt lease expire, I have a dilemma. What do I do with the piano?
Storage will cost $690 plus $75 per month. They’ll even tune it for $95. Or, I can try to rent it to someone on Craigslist and hope they don’t destroy it. My insurance covers any damages not considered “normal wear and tear” (what does that mean??), if I pay the deductible ($500 I think).
What should I do?

Emphasis mine.  You lucky, lucky, LUCKY FUCKING BASTARD!  I (my parents) have had the same piano since I was SIX.  Do they play the piano?  NO. So what do they say when I beg and plead and beg and plead and BEG SOME FUCKING MORE TO HAVE IT SHIPPED TO MEMPHIS AND I WILL PAY FOR EVERYTHING??!!
They say no.
I have asked them EVERY year.
And EVERY year they say no.
There are not enough words to explain how angry this makes me.  And maybe I’m just being a fucking whiny baby, but goddamnit, I want my fucking piano!

OH MAN that’s terrible! Pianos aren’t furniture! They are meant to be played and loved regularly. You have my sympathies.
(Originally, I submitted this as an answer to this post, but then realized that didn’t make any sense. So here it is, again.)
